Elmer Henry ( E.H.) Maytag

E.H. HenryE.H. Maytag, eldest son of F.L., joined the company in 1902, and his talents lay in finance and banking rather than in manufacturing. First named treasurer, E.H. in the 1920's developed saving trusts for employees who had been with the company for five years, and helped to attract qualified workers to Newton by joining forces with a builder to construct more than 400 homes he then sold on generous time payment to employees. named president in 1926, E.H. had overseen the financial restructuring of the company when it became publically held in 1925.E.H.'s financial ability grounded the company during its quick growth throughout the 1920's and enabled it to survive the depression without loss of money. E.H. died in 1940.
